Julissa Zavala, grants and contracts facilitator, California Water Institute – Research and Education Division, was accepted into the Hispanic Association of Colleges and University’s HSI Research Capacity Building Institute. The program, funded by the National Science Foundation, kicked off on Oct. 28 with a grant writing symposium during its 37th annual conference in Chicago.
During the symposium, Zavala had the opportunity to learn about the Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and learned best practices for submitting a successful National Science Foundation proposal. Zavala expressed gratitude for the valuable insights and connections she gained during the event and said she is excited to take the knowledge and strategies she acquired at the symposium and apply them to her work at the California Water Institute.
The Maddy Institute hosted the Fair Political Practice Commission's (FPPC) monthly hearing on Oct. 19 in the Ellipse Gallery. This was the first in-person meeting since the pandemic, and it was led by FPPC Chair Richard Miadich. Click here for more information about the meeting.
The Maddy Associates Speaker Series Luncheon was held on Oct. 25 with Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer and Elliott Balch, executive director of the Downtown Fresno Partnership, and moderated by Maddy Institute Executive Director Mark Keppler. They discussed the recent allocation of $300 million to the revitalization of Downtown Fresno. A video recording of this event can be found on YouTube.
