Dr. Rolston St. Hilaire, dean, Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, has been appointed to the State Board of Food and Agriculture by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Dr. Katy Tarrant, associate professor, Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education Department, presented a poultry industry seminar on improving bird welfare and sustainability through Poultry World at the EuroTier Conference.
The world's leading trade fair for professional animal farming was hosted in Hanover, Germany from Nov. 10 to 13.
Tarrant also works with the campus Institute for Food and Agriculture to oversee its Center for the Optimization of Poultry.
Earlier this fall, the program received a USDA $1.2 million, four-year grant tied to Hispanic Serving Institution programs to extend its educational and research efforts that support the regional, national and international poultry industries.
Tarrant serves as a co-principal investigator for the project with art and design faculty Dr. Laura Huisinga. The project is called "PEEPS: Professional Experience and Enrichment in Poultry Science," and includes collaborations with contacts at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
