University Marketing and Communications is working on a year-end video that will showcase all that Fresno State has to be proud of this year, and we want to hear from our Bulldog community — the authentic stories of what makes you proud and what makes us the Pride of the Valley.
To do this, we’re asking the Bulldog community to submit 5- to 10-second selfie videos that share moments of pride and why those accomplishments are so meaningful. These submissions will have a chance to be featured in the final year-end video. With such a wide range of achievements, we hope you will consider submitting a video that touches on one or more of the following themes. Please use the provided example quotes as inspiration for your selfie video submissions.
Student Success
Student success is always at the center of everything we do. And we couldn’t do it without our dedicated faculty and staff.
When it comes to student success, what has made you proud this year?
Example Quotes:
“We graduated over 6,000 students this year. It makes me so proud to see those students walk across the stage."
“I’m proud to serve students in my role and play a small part in their journeys.”
“I’m proud to make Fresno State a place where everyone feels like they belong.”
Research
Fresno State was awarded 434 grants and contracts for a total of $78.3 million in research funding during the 2023-24 academic year, reflecting the university’s R2 status. Our remarkable scholars continue to drive innovation and develop meaningful solutions across disciplines.
When it comes to research, what has made you proud this year?
Example Quotes:
“I’m proud of my students. They were able to present their research at one of our discipline’s most prestigious conferences.”
“I’m proud of all the progress we made this semester. We now have a prototype we can share with industry partners.”
Multi-Language Pride of the Valley
Located in the ninth most diverse city in the nation, the Bulldog community is a rich and vibrant tapestry of numerous cultures, languages and people. In addition to one or more of the above themes, please consider submitting a video of you reciting “Pride of the Valley” in a language of your choice. When submitting, please identify the language and provide a text translation.
Video Submission Guidelines
- Limit videos to no longer than 10 seconds.
- Only address one theme per video. If you would like to address more than one theme, please submit them as separate videos. (Multiple videos are encouraged!)
- Submit your selfie videos to Marketing and Communications Strategist Victoria Cisneros Soto at toraaa@mail.fresnostate.edu no later than Wednesday, Nov. 20.
Recording tips
- Record your video vertically. This will help us ensure all videos have the same format.
- Natural light is best. Try to record near a window but be sure you are facing the light source rather than placing it behind you.
- Fill up the frame. Avoid recording yourself from a distance that may cause lots of empty space.
- Dress to impress. If you'd like to wear Fresno State attire, that's great but not entirely necessary. Be comfortable in what you're in.
Find a quiet place to film. Avoid having a busy background that could be picked up by your microphone.
- Try not to read from a script. While recording yourself might feel awkward, remember to be yourself and speak like you’re talking to a friend.
- Have fun with it! If you mess up, remember you can always start over and try again.
Please note: All submissions will be considered for inclusion in the year-end video, however, due to the expected volume, some selfie videos may not be used.
We look forward to hearing all the things that have made you proud this year! If you have any questions, reach out to Victoria Cisneros Soto at toraaa@mail.fresnostate.edu.
