The Student Recreation Center is set to embark on a highly anticipated “Refresh” project, bringing exciting upgrades that will elevate the fitness and wellness experience for the campus community.
The Rec Center, which has been a hub of activity since its opening on Feb. 3, 2006, will temporarily close its doors starting Nov. 25, with plans to reopen on Jan. 16, 2025.
During this time, the building will undergo a series of enhancements to both its equipment and aesthetics, ensuring it’s “worth the weight” when students and staff return.
Exciting updates include:
- Updated cardio and strength equipment: Prepare for an upgraded workout experience with new, cutting-edge equipment that will take fitness goals to the next level.
- New composition rubber flooring: Say goodbye to the old carpet and welcome sleek, durable rubber flooring on the main level — designed to improve both performance and comfort.
- A touch of school pride: In addition to practical improvements, the refresh will introduce exciting visual updates that showcase Fresno State's colors and spirit, infusing school pride throughout the space.
“We’re excited to bring this much-needed refresh to life,” said Derek Walters, director of the Recreation Center. “These upgrades reflect our commitment to providing a top-tier fitness facility that not only supports our students’ physical health but also builds a sense of community and pride in our school.”
Although programs and services will not be available during the refresh period, students and staff can look forward to a grand reopening in January, where they’ll be greeted with new equipment, updated spaces and a fresh new look.
Upon reopening, faculty and staff memberships will be available for purchase at $25 per month or $250 annually. Memberships can be purchased at the front desk of the Student Rec Center.
When we reopen our hours will be:
- Monday - Friday: 6 a.m. - 9 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Sunday: Noon - 9 p.m.
