Victoria A. Malko, lecturer, History Department, will be presenting a keynote speech at the Holdomor commemoration in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The L.A. Holodomor event will commemorate the victims from the devastating famine-genocide in Ukraine during the 1930s. The event will also commemorate victims and survivors of the current war in Ukraine. Malko’s talk will focus on the political history of the Genocide and how it plays into modern day politics.
The 90th Holodomor anniversary commemoration will include the Panakhyda (Requiem) service in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, a wreath laying at the Holodomor Monument in Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles, and a documentary film screening, art exhibition, and scholarly presentations focusing on the legal definition of the Holodomor as genocide in light of the U.N. Convention. Those interested can purchase tickets for the event online.
Laura Ramos, interim director, California Water Institute – Research and Education Division, was chosen to represent Fresno State on the Drought Resilience Interagency and Partners Collaborative. The task force serves as a public forum to advance drought strategies and continue building resilience to the increasingly arid conditions California faces.
Ramos said she is honored to serve on the task force and encourages faculty to email her at lramos@mail.fresnostate.edu if they have any ideas they would like to share about critical water issues facing the Central Valley and state.
