In 2015, I was involved with a terrorist-inspired attack at UC Merced. After returning to work I saw the challenges the University faced in providing continuous training for faculty and staff in students facing adversity. Already armed with a masters degree in counseling, I wanted to gain an understanding of crime and the challenges our community members face surrounding crime. The coursework that was provided by the criminology faculty provided keen insight on how our community is impacted by adversity.

Juan is a first-generation college graduate with strong agricultural ties in the Central Valley. He comes from a farming family and credits his parents for their constant support and encouragement through his years working in area elementary and high schools and his time here on campus. He has worked with youth in many different environments, and his cheerful, "can-do" demeanor and extensive technical skills are a boon to the department. Congratulations, Juan!

Completing fourth Fresno State degree — also holds a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees. Selected Class of 2022 graduate student ambassador for the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership, as well as graduate speaker for 9th annual Rainbow Graduation Celebration. Dissertation is titled: "Higher Education Philanthropy: Exploring LGBTQ+ Allyship Affiliations and Motivations for Giving." Faculty mentor and dissertation chair is Dr. Jonathan T. Pryor.
