Thomas J. Ebert (Librarian Emeritus) and co-author Dr. Allen Carden received a book contract from the University of Tennessee Press for John G. Nicolay: the man in Lincoln’s shadow. The book is scheduled for spring 2019 publication. Prior to his retirement from the University in 2005, Mr. Ebert was a full-time faculty member in the Madden Library and associate vice president for Academic Personnel. Dr. Carden is a professor of history at Fresno Pacific University.
“The acceptance of this book highlights the scholarly capabilities and academic achievements of the faculty of the Madden Library,” said Dean of Library Services Del Hornbuckle.
John G. Nicolay was a German-born immigrant who held the position of Private Secretary to the President during Lincoln’s administration. The only other biography of Nicolay is a book by his daughter published in 1949.
