As you may be aware, Fresno State has initiated its search for a new provost and vice president for Academic Affairs and has established a search committee that will be assisted by Alberto Pimentel and Emy Cruz, partners with the firm SP&A Executive Search.
During the next two weeks, members of the search committee and the search consultants will host a series of listening sessions with key university stakeholders to solicit their input and discuss the search. This is an opportunity for various constituents to share their thoughts and comments regarding the qualities and characteristics sought in the new provost. The information gathered during these sessions will inform the development of the position profile and assist the search committee in finalizing the criteria by which candidates will be evaluated.
The search committee will be interested in exploring the following questions:
-
Based on your experience at Fresno State, what do you see as the short-term (immediate) and long-term (three to five years) challenges and opportunities facing the new provost?
-
Given the challenges and opportunities you have described, what professional experiences and qualifications must the successful candidate possess? What personal qualities must the new provost have in order to be a strong cultural “fit” with our Fresno State community?
-
What major initiatives are currently in the implementation phase at Fresno State and warrant the new provost's attention and support but, because of its late stage of implementation, can no longer be influenced by the successful candidate?
- What are the key positive attributes and most attractive features of Fresno State, and the surrounding community and how might those be used to attract the best candidates?
As a valued member of the Fresno State community, we invite you to participate in these important sessions. Each constituent group will be scheduled to meet with the search committee and consultants for 30 minutes. Your session (open forum) is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, March 7 via Zoom (details below).
Because there are many constituents with whom the search committee and consultants need to meet, we must adhere to our schedule. Therefore, it would be helpful if you prepare your thoughts and comments prior to your scheduled meeting. If you are unable to attend the session but would like to share your thoughts, please visit this link to submit your comments electronically.
Thank you for your participation and we look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jason Bush
Professor of Biology and Provost Search Committee Chair
