Cal State Innovate and the Fresno State Hub of Digital Transformation and Innovation have partnered to create a system-wide virtual sandbox designed to explore Extended Reality (XR) environments. The Cal State XR Sandbox allows for exploration in a controlled setting, a playground of sorts, to safely test and create new ideas.
Utilizing the Cal State XR Sandbox, our teams will leverage open source technology, Mozilla Hubs, and AWS cloud infrastructure to create an XR immersive environment that is easily accessible from any device and can be used for virtual events, teaching and learning, meetings and networking opportunities.
All CSU faculty, staff and students are invited to explore and create in the sandbox. We invite you to register for one of our upcoming demos (below) to learn more about XR environments and explore the Cal State XR Sandbox. Each session will provide an overview of the platform, followed by a chance to visit the XR Campus and explore in Hubs. Learn how to obtain access to a space and try it on your own.

As we continue to learn, connect and work in virtual and hybrid modes, XR environments offer immersive experiences for students at a time when innovative and engaging digital spaces are becoming more essential.
“The Hubs created an important platform for our students to make connections and form a sense of community during COVID that would otherwise not have been possible in the virtual learning environment. This space helped our freshmen to develop their identity as scholars and their connection to our campus, which supports student retention and success," said Dr. Alam Hasson, interim vice provost and senior academic technology officer. "As we move forward with more in-person instruction in the coming semesters, Hubs will remain an important learning space for our students that continues to provide additional opportunities for them to connect, learn and grow.”
We hope you’ll consider joining us in our pursuit to discover and create environments that benefit our students and the entire campus community.
