Name: Imelda Dudley
Title: Coordinator of internships and professional experiences
Department: Jordan College Advising and Career Development Center
Academic Degrees: B.A. family and consumer sciences and M.A. in higher education administration and leadership
How long you have worked at Fresno State: 11 years
What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important? When I was selected for the E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It was a nationwide competitive opportunity and I was honored to have been selected. I had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. and represent Fresno State at this four week fellowship. I was provided professional development opportunities, met with various federal agencies and learned about opportunities that I was then able to bring back to Fresno State and share with my students and colleagues.
What are you most passionate about in your field and why? I'm most passionate about helping students achieve their academic, personal and professional goals. It's important to me that my students know that I believe in them and I'm here to help them be successful.
What is a memorable moment you had at your job? I created a folder in my email labeled "Personal YELP reviews" after receiving a very touching thank you email from a student who I helped years ago early in my career at Fresno State. It had been years since I had heard from this student. It took him many years to graduate but I was so proud that he made it and that I contributed to his success. My only regret was not creating that Personal YELP review folder earlier!
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time? I love traveling locally, nationally, internationally and all of the above!
What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know? I'm fascinated by languages. My first language is Spanish and I learned English when I was eight years old. I took a Mandarin class at Fresno State and started to learn Portuguese recently. I haven't mastered a third language yet but hope to someday.
Is there something else you would like to share that was not asked? I met my husband Ryan at Fresno State. He is a two-time graduate like me as well. His first degree was psychology and the second was nursing. We have a daughter named Lea who I had while I was a student at Fresno State. She attended the Fresno State Huggins Center as a little girl and perhaps someday she'll continue our tradition and be a Bulldog as a college student. This university has been a huge part of my life and I am beyond grateful for the personal and professional opportunities that it has afforded me!
