During this time of Ramadan, we extend our support to our Muslim students, faculty, and staff observing this time of fasting, reflection, and community.
In the Muslim world, Ramadan is an opportunity for spiritual renewal, increased self-discipline, and empathy for those in need. It is also a time for deep reflection and acts of kindness, culminating in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr — a day that begins with communal prayers at day break, when the person wears new clothes to symbolize a new beginning, and it is a feast when families and friends gather to share a meal and exchange gifts.
To honor this significant time, we invite the entire campus community to participate in three campus initiatives:
- Campus Iftar Dinner: Join us for a special iftar dinner on Wednesday, March 19, where we can break fast together and strengthen our community ties in a spirit of unity and reflection. Registration is required; there is limited seating available.
- Ramadan Exhibit: Visit the Library’s Ramadan exhibit, which highlights the cultural and spiritual significance of this month, providing an opportunity to learn more about the traditions and values it represents for our Muslim friends and neighbors. The exhibit runs through March 28.
- Anti-Islamophobia Resource Guide: Explore our new resource guide on Islamophobia Awareness, which launched in the fall. It offers important resources for promoting understanding, inclusivity and dialogue within our community.
We thank the Muslim Student Association and the President’s Muslim Leadership Council for their efforts in organizing these initiatives.
Let us all foster respect and understanding by learning more about the traditions and values of those around us. A community that embraces diversity strengthens us all.
Ramadan Mubarak to all! May this season bring you peace, reflection and joy.
Sincerely,
Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval
President
