Fresno State will host a one-day Forum for Inclusion, Respect and Equity, “Visions For A Better World.” This forum will continue exploring the themes from the project “Surveying Utopias: A Critical Exploration” which was launched this academic year. The forum will also provide an opportunity for individuals to learn skills for engaging in conversations with individuals from diverse viewpoints.
The forum will be held from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3. It is open to the public and was organized by the Fresno State President’s Commission on Human Relations and Equity. The overall theme
"Utopia/Dystopia: Visions For A Better World" is intended to provide an opportunity for us to hear and express various perspectives on what it means to have a “better” world.
Forum events begin with refreshments and registration at 9 a.m. in the Table Mountain Rancheria Reading Room of the Henry Madden Library. A welcoming and announcements will be at 9:15 a.m., with an "Envisioning a Better World" introduction by Dr. Leece Lee Oliver, director of Native American Studies at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., graduate students will serve on a panel addressing the Utopia/Dystopia concept followed by a Fresno State campus panel on "Vision for a Better World" at 11 a.m.
At noon, the PCHRE will host a luncheon panel of Fresno State campus members who will provide diverse perspectives on "Visions for A Better Fresno State: Our Principles of Community." The luncheon is free and open to the public. RSVP for the luncheon at bit.ly/springforum19.
Forum events conclude with “How to Effectively Deal with Tough Conflicts – A Controversial Issue Process: Considering Our Principles of Community” from 1 - 4 p.m. facilitated by the Fresno State National Coalition Building Institute team.
