Brenna Barks, program assistant for the Office of Clinical Practice in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, was invited to present in Scotland at the Outlander Conference Glasgow in June 2020. The conference is focused on the TV and book series, "Outlander."
Barks has always been passionate about fashion and its history. She received her bachelor's degree in linguistics at Fresno State, and received her master’s degree in History, Theory and Display at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Her most recent academic publication was “From Waverley to Outlander: How Scottish dress became everyone’s dress," published in Fashion, Style & Popular Culture in October 2018. Her work can also be found in volume 3 of the American Library award-winning encyclopedia Clothing and Fashion: American Fashion from Head to Toe, which is available in the Henry Madden Library. Her popular publications include four articles on Regency life and dress history in Jane Austen Knits 2014 and Jane Austen Knits 2015, as well as an exploration of the Victorian tartan craze in Knitting Traditions 2017.
Barks is planning to attend the Outlander Conference Glasgow 2020 to discuss, debate and dissect the fashion elements that are in the Outlander TV series. The main purpose of the conference is to further the exchange of information and knowledge surrounding both books and TV series of Outlander.
