Women’s History Month celebrates the contributions women have made to the United States and recognizes the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.
Here is a list of public events throughout the monthlong celebration:
March 16: “Kasturba Gandhi: Accidental Activist” documentary film. The M.K. Gandhi Center: Inner Peace and Sarvodaya will host a film screening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Peters Education Center. A discussion with director Cynthia Lukas and contributor and professor Dr. Veena Howard will occur following the film.
March 24-April 1: “Men on Boats.” University Theatre presents a Fresno premiere of Jaclyn Backhous’ play, which is based on John Wesley Powell’s “The Exploration of the Colorado River and its Canyons,” a textual account of their expedition in the mid-19th century. In this production, director Gina Sandi-Diaz turns the story on its head by having an all female-identifying or non-binary cast play the roles of the men, infusing America’s historic myths of male conquest with a blast of satire. Tickets.
March 29: “A Splash of Color,” presented by the Cross Cultural and Gender Center, noon to 2 p.m. at Thomas Building [Room 110], featuring local artist and Fresno State alumna Lyndsie Lyman as she leads participants in a themed painting tutorial. Supplies and snacks will be provided. Pre-registration is required.
