The Fresno State National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) team will host international leaders for a three-day Train-the-Trainer seminar.
NCBI’s internationally acclaimed leaders Robert Dungey and Joyce Shabazz will share their expert skills in a highly engaging seminar to teach participants interested in becoming NCBI members how to lead two NCBI programs: the Welcoming Diversity Workshop and the Controversial Issues Process. Selected applicants must be able to attend all three days of the seminar in its entirety since each activity builds on previous work.
The seminar is made possible through funding from the Fresno State President’s Commission on Human Relations and Equity and support from the Cross Cultural and Gender Center.
WHO CAN APPLY
All Fresno State students, faculty, staff and administrators are invited to apply to become NCBI members through this training. There is no cost for Fresno State employees and students to attend if selected to participate. Off-campus community members are also welcome to apply. However, there is a registration fee for non-Fresno State applicants who are selected to participate.
PREREQUISITE
Applicants must have attended a one-day Welcoming Diversity Workshop within the last three years. Go to: fresnoState.edu/studentaffairs/ccgc and click on the “Welcoming Diversity Workshop (NCBI)” tab in the left navigation margin to register for an upcoming workshop.
NCBI TEAM
Those who complete the three-day seminar to become a member of NCBI will have further opportunities to develop their multicultural learning and social justice skills in a supportive environment. NCBI members are expected to:
- Serve on the team for a minimum of two years
- Embrace the NCBI model
- Participate in at least two NCBI sponsored events each academic year (e.g., one-day Welcoming Diversity Workshop, mini workshops, ASPIRE Resource Team, etc.)
- Regularly attend team meetings
The NCBI team also provides additional services — such as the “Building Bridges Tackling Fears,” which addresses issues that include racism, classism, ableism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, and sexism. The NCBI team regularly facilitates mini-workshops and individual or group consultations.
