The California State University Board of Trustees on Wednesday, May 22, unanimously approved the concept of a public-private partnership for the development of Fresno State’s new central utility plant.
Built in 1954, the current plant provides heating and cooling services to over 3.1 million square feet of building space, across 80 buildings and 1,011 acres. The plant has had limited improvements over the past 65 years and lacks the capacity to accommodate campus expansion and new buildings.
Replacing the central utility plant is the highest priority capital project for the campus. Upgrades will allow for future campus growth and will support the overall campus master plan, programmatic goals and education mission. The project will also help the campus achieve lower carbon heating and cooling operations and comply with the Board of Trustees’ policy on sustainability.
