Dr. Katherine Fobear was honored as a Harvey Milk Community Leader Award recipient at the City of Fresno's LGBTQ+ Pride Flag Raising on June 6 for her work uplifting and protecting LGBTQ2+ lives across the Central Valley.
Fobear founded the LGBTQ2+ Studies minor and co-created 11 courses for the new minor. She is excited about the new cross-listed courses recently approved, such as WGSS 165/PSYCH 165: LGBTQ+ Psychology and AFRS/WGSS 14 Queer Black Arts and Literature.
She has also worked with faculty, alumnx, students and community members to establish the first endowed LGBTQ2+ Studies Scholarship in the California State University system.
A board member of the Central Valley Trans-E-Motion organization, she also authored the county's first LGBTQ+ Housing report and co-authored the Transgender Health Report with her former student, Crow Fitzpatrick.
