The Progress Pride flag was raised on June 4 during the university's fifth annual flag raising ceremony.
Staff, faculty and friends from the greater Fresno community recognized the start of Pride Month and a commitment to growth, inclusion and meaningful action with a flag raising at the flagpole at the Veterans Monument on campus.
The event is hosted by the Cross Cultural and Gender Center. A short ceremony before the flag raising included speeches from President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval along with representatives from United Student Pride, the LGBTQ+ Allies Faculty and Staff Network and special guests.
The Progress Pride flag was designed by American artist Daniel Quasar in 2018. Quasar’s design adapted the iconic rainbow flag to be more inclusive within the LGBTQ+ community, adding a chevron with stripes colored specifically to represent LGBTQ+ community members of color and transgender individuals.
