Wen Pulido, library cataloging and metadata assistant for the Arne Nixon Center, was one of three scholarship recipients selected for the CLA Scholarship For BIPOC Students in Memory of Edna Yelland. This scholarship encourages and supports students in the attainment of a graduate degree in library or information studies and the commitment to improve the library services to BIPOC communities. She has also been involved on projects that focus on enhancing records’ metadata to better represent marginalized communities such as LGBTQIA+, African Americans, American Indians, Chicano/Latinx and Asian Americans. She will continue to advocate for a wider representation and appreciation of cultural differences in the collection and community, help lessen historically rooted racism and marginalization, and have a deeper understanding of diverse materials and services that highlight empathy towards one another and instead celebrate these differences.
