Faculty from music, political science and communication will conduct research in Europe and India.
Dr. Benjamin Boone, professor of music theory and composition; Dr. Devendra Sharma, communication and performance professor; and Dr. Melanie H. Ram, professor of political science; were named U.S. Fulbright Scholars for the 2022-23 academic year.
Recent biochemistry graduate Sydney Fox, a member of the track and field team, also won a Fulbright research award.
Boone, who received a Fulbright Senior Specialist Award to Moldova in 2005 and a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Award to Ghana for the 2017-18 academic year, will go to Ireland to learn about the musical pedagogy and work with other musicians to create and record new music.
Sharma will return to his home country of India to research and document the swang-nautanki, a folk opera tradition in Northern India, and its traditional akhārās, the swang-nautanki community performance groups.
Ram will research the subregional intergovernmental organizations that emerged in Europe since the end of the Cold War, many of which were established to support European integration and security and stability in Europe. She will visit Italy, Croatia and Romania and will also meet with faculty and students at the University of Zagreb and the University of Bucharest.
