Dr. The Nguyen (Mechanical Engineering) received the 2017 Provost’s Award for Innovation. He is an engineer, inventor, innovator and idea maker. But, first and foremost, he is a teacher.
He believes it’s a vital part of the university's curriculum to treat his students like practicing engineers and ask a lot of questions to help them validate their own answers.

Betsy A. Hays (Media, Communications and Journalism) was named the University’s Faculty Service-Learning Scholar for 2017-18.
The one-year term, which is supported with faculty release time, provides professional development training and support for faculty members interested in creating or enhancing a service-learning course.

Emil Milevoj was named the new director of the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He will become an assistant professor of management in the Craig School of Business in the fall, in addition to heading the center.
He will succeed interim director Dr. Scott Moore, dean of the Division of Continuing and Global Education, who has led the Lyles Center since February 2016.

Luke Pryor (Kinesiology) had the article he co-authored, "The Effect Betaine on Nitric Oxide Levels and Cardiovascular Response to Exercise," published in the April edition of The International Journal of Exercise Science.
Selena Winchell (Recreation Administration) earned her certification in Lean Project Management from the Management Strategy Institute.
Six faculty members were recognized by the American Educational Research Association at its 2017 annual meeting for their work on expert peer-review panels. Recognized were: Dr. Dermot Donnelly (Chemistry), Dr. Ignacio Hernandez (Educational Leadership), Dr. Juliet Wahleithner (Literacy, Early, Bilingual and Special Education), Dr. Mariya Yukhymenko (Curriculum and Instruction), Dr. Libbi Miller (Curriculum and Instruction) and Dr. Selena Van Horn (Literacy, Early, Bilingual and Special Education).
Two faculty members from the College of Arts and Humanities and a student have won the prestigious Fulbright awards which will take them to other parts of the world.
Alice Daniel, a lecturer in the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism, and her husband, Dr. Benjamin Boone, a professor in the Department of Music, have been awarded Fulbright Scholar grants and will travel with their teen-aged sons to the University of Ghana to teach and do research during the 2017-18 academic year.
Tegan Jones, who recently completed her bachelor's degree with a major in English and a minor in German literature and folklore from the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, received a Fulbright Student Award and will spend the next year in Berlin, Germany, working as an English teaching assistant.
