Summer represents a time to plan and refocus on repopulating the campus in fall 2021. Today’s newsletter highlights our efforts to plant seeds for future harvests.
Dear Bulldog Community,
Growing up, I associated summer with harvest time — the bright and warm sun of our Valley is perfect for our crops. In the case of our University, summer represents a time to plan and refocus on repopulating the campus in fall 2021. Today’s newsletter highlights our efforts to plant seeds for future harvests: Our professors are busy with outreach for K-12, to bring in future Bulldogs. Likewise, our health center promotes a holistic approach, with a focus on increased availability of resources and enhanced options for gathering once again with others. Look out for news regarding our Kennel Marketplace at Campus Pointe, opening in September. Enjoy your summer, as we gear up for our much-expected return to our beloved campus and our unique Fresno State energy!
Academic Affairs
Over the summer, many programs within Academic Affairs are offering workshops and activities for K-12 students. One example of this is the USDA funded Ag Discovery program, which provides an overview for high school students from across the country on opportunities in agriculture. Avery Culbertson in the Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education leads this effort. It involves faculty and community leaders and had students from as far away as North Carolina and Virginia participating this year.
Administration and Finance
We are excited to share an update on the future opening of the Kennel Marketplace at Campus Pointe, a collaboration between the Fresno State Auxiliary Services (Association) and Follett Higher Education Group. We are projecting a soft opening in July with a grand opening celebration being planned for Sept. 10. Kennel Marketplace will offer apparel and spirit wear, customizable Fresno State T-shirts, general merchandise and Apple-certified technology. Other services include a location for students to pick up course materials purchased from the Kennel Bookstore. The Kennel Marketplace will also include a Starbucks café operated by University Dining Services.
Athletics
Bulldog Football season is approaching — fast. This year's home schedule features six exciting games, that you won't want to miss. A reminder that all faculty and staff are able to purchase season tickets for only $79 via our Bulldog Pass.
Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
As we prepare to come back together in person as a campus community, the Student Health and Counseling Center stresses the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine to protect yourself, family, friends and the greater Fresno State community. The Student Health and Counseling Center is in the process of getting approved to offer the COVID-19 vaccine. Pending approval, vaccines will be available for students, faculty and staff starting fall 2021. In addition, the Student Health and Counseling Center currently offers COVID-19 testing to students. More information on COVID-19 vaccines can be found on this recorded webinar.
Technology Services
Our Classroom Technologies, Operations, Telecom and Networks Team is busy at work creating HyFlex learning spaces across the campus. We have all heard of online, hybrid, or blended classes, but the newest model of teaching is HyFlex. HyFlex generally refers to an instructional approach that allows for face-to-face and online learning at the same time. Once complete, these rooms will allow faculty flexibility in their instructional approach to teaching and learning and students will experience a learning environment designed to fit a variety of needs.
A big thanks to Director Mike Garvey and his teams for all their hard work!
University Advancement
After months of work planning, writing, photographing, designing and editing by staff, Fresno State Magazine landed in the mailboxes of alumni and friends all over the Valley and world. The biannual publication is the No. 1 way we share the stories of Fresno State and its people, helping to inspire passion for the University’s purpose and build the foundation for continually growing support and engagement. This new issue highlights the one-of-a-kind experience agriculture students get on the University’s 1,000-acre “living laboratory,” as well as numerous other features and news items. Take a peek inside at www.fresnostate.edu/magazine.
Campus News is the official faculty and staff email newsletter at Fresno State. It is published weekly during the academic year and every other week during the summer by University Marketing and Communications. Faculty and staff may submit information to be considered for publication to campusnews@csufresno.edu.
