Combining her love of food and healthy living while also offering a chance to be an entrepreneur, dietetics was the perfect major for alumna Tawnie Kroll.
“My mom raised us in the kitchen, so, starting really young, I’ve always been around food,” she said. "As I was growing up I found cooking and cooking new things interesting, and I was sharing on Facebook with friends and family. Everyone was requesting recipes from me, and then someone mentioned, ‘Hey, you should start a blog.’”
Tawnie launched her blog, Kroll’s Korner, in 2014.
Since then, she’s continuously worked to grow and improve her blog — studying food photography, joining blogging groups and attending conferences for food photographers and dietician bloggers.
Kroll’s Korner has grown across all social media platforms, with over 12,000 followers on Instagram.
Tawnie has also partnered with big brands, creating recipes for Nestlé and Chobani.
With all the time and effort being invested, blogging became more than a hobby for Tawnie; it became a source of happiness as she shared her food and bits of her life with others.
“I left my day job because I knew I wasn’t letting myself work to my full potential,” she said. “When I [woke] up every morning and [thought] about what makes me happy…I found myself wanting to be in the kitchen and cooking and taking pictures and sharing with people.”
Although she dedicates a lot of her time to Kroll’s Korner, Tawnie lives a balanced life outside of social media, her kitchen and her photo studio. She appears on KMPH Fox 26 and KSEE 24 Sunrise to teach her recipes and she instructs indoor cycling and pilates. She also spends a lot of time with friends and family.
