We are pleased to share with you that effective July 1, Lt. Jennifer Curwick will serve as interim chief of police and Sgt. Ruben Madrigal will serve as interim lieutenant.
Curwick began her career at the Fresno State Police Department in 1990 as a student assistant. In 1995, she became a full-time police dispatcher and in 1999 while working full time, she enrolled in the State Center Community College District Police Academy, and after graduating was hired as a sworn police officer at Fresno State. Curwick earned her Bachelor of Science degree in criminology along with the victimology certificate from Fresno State in 1996 and in 2005 she was promoted to sergeant. She served in this role for nine years before being promoted to lieutenant in 2014.
Curwick has received numerous training certificates, including completion of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, and has been responsible for the oversight and coordination of the department's accreditation through the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. She currently serves on the Fresno State CARE Team and has taught the RAD self-defense class for women for over 20 years.
Madrigal is a graduate of UC Berkeley where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He started his law enforcement career in the City of Firebaugh in 1997. He later joined the Fresno State Police Department in July 2005. During his 25-year career, he has worked in different assignments such as a school resource officer, community outreach, coffee with a cop, National Night Out, DUI enforcement, MADD Award, patrol officer, field training officer coordinator, detective, Dog Days presenter (Spanish), police internship coordinator and terrorism liaison officer. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2008. He is also a graduate of the Sherman Block Leadership Institute. His current assignment is administrative detective sergeant. In 2017, he joined the Fresno Police Academy as an adjunct instructor where he teaches Community Policing and Cultural Diversity.
