The California Water Institute’s Water Book Club returns this fall semester with the featured book, “Science be Dammed: How Ignoring Inconvenient Science Drained the Colorado River” by Eric Kuhn and John Fleck.
The book examines the planning decisions that led to the mismanagement of the water in the Colorado River. The authors argue that historical and scientific evidence was ignored in favor of ambitious dreams. In the age of climate change, Science Be Dammed emphasizes the importance of learning from past mistakes by using the best scientific knowledge to inform our decisions today.
Fresno State faculty, staff, and students will meet weekly starting the week of September 17 for casual in-depth discussions about the reading. Since its inception in 2019, the semester-long Water Book Club has drawn a diverse range of participants from departments across the university.
