Kittens hopelessly trapped in the Foundation office building last week were rescued by Plant Ops carpenter Matt Montez and Plant Ops engineer Ruben Silva.
The amazing rescue took a lot of perseverence and prayer.
After coming in to work last week, several Foundation co-workers heard kittens meowing from the kitchen/break area. Somehow the kittens had been up on the roof and fell through a vent into a closed-off section of an old range hood that was blocked off during a remodel years ago.
"After trying multiple access areas as well as roof access, it wasn't looking very good for the kittens," said Pam Woody, accounting technician. "We were all very worried about how long they had been trapped and if Matt and Ruben would be able to reach them in time."
With an office full of animals lovers waiting to hear good news, Matt and Ruben were feeling the pressure to save the kittens.
After one idea after another failed, Matt and Ruben were able to get a trap door open. It was then a matter of getting the kittens to move to that opening. Finally, both kittens were pulled out safely, even if it was under loud feline protests.
A bonus note is that both kittens have already been adopted and are on their way to their new home and to be checked out by their vet.
Way to go guys!
"I would like to say thank you to the TNR [Trap-Neuter-Return] Program for Cats at Fresno State, which is also helping us catch momma cat to have her spayed so we don't have any more kittens on our roof," said Pam. "Today's rescue is a perfect example of why we need to support the TNR Program. Thank you, Amalia Olvera, Dolores Vezzolini, and Susanne Owen for taking on such a big issue. Please consider donating to this cause!"
