Judo is a legacy in the Imamura family.
For Richard Imamura, teaching judo at Fresno State is a family tradition. His father, the late Sensei Haruo Imamura , was a well-respected icon in the judo world and taught at Fresno State nearly 40 years.
"For my father, judo was his life, and he especially enjoyed teaching it at Fresno State,” Richard said.
Haruo's granddaughter, Miranda, a Fresno State student and top-ranked judoist in the country, represented Fresno State at the World University Games in August 2017.
Miranda is now the third-generation in her family to compete in judo.
The Imamura family is full of proud Bulldog alumni, including brothers Robert, Richard, Rodney and Randy.
