The American Indian Programs and Services team at the Cross Cultural and Gender Center is excited to host a poetry series with three separate opportunities to participate in a writing workshop. Our upcoming sessions will focus on various indigenous cultural beliefs as well as empower students to discuss how heritage and culture impact their every-day lives.
Join us as we explore various poetic forms and styles to foster a better understanding of personal identity and how it relates to culture. Throughout this series we will foster an environment that allows you to feel empowered by your heritage and unique cultural traditions. Above all we hope to inspire you to feel more connected to your roots and all the beautiful parts of your identity. Everyone is welcome.
The event will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Cross Cultural and Gender Center’s conference room, Room 110, in the Thomas Building.
We will have three meetings on Feb. 11, March 11 and April 8.
- Tuesday, Feb. 11 poetry workshop will be led by MFA and CCGC student staff Amelia Holguin.
- Tuesday, March 11 poetry workshop will be led by MFA and CCGC student staff Angelina Leanos.
- Tuesday, April 8 poetry workshop will be led by CCGC Assistant Coordinator Kathy Moua.
Each in-person session will have a guided presentation and worksheet. While supplies last, we will also provide writing utensils, art materials and journals so that participants can customize their personal poetry journals. We will also have pizza and snacks to keep the creative juices flowing and encourage beautiful artistic ideas from all of you.
To register, complete this form and select the event titled “Identity Poetry Series” and we will follow up with you soon to provide more details. Although the event is first come, first served, complete the form to indicate your interest.
Your participation will help us create a vibrant space for learning, discussion and connection. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore fascinating cultural practices and contribute to our community’s shared understanding.
We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming session and hearing your ideas for future workshops.
Submit the form by 11:59 p.m. on the Friday before each workshop (Feb. 7, March 7 and April 4). For more information, contact Kathy Moua at kathybk@mail.fresnostate.edu.
