Name: Marian Federoff
Title: Accounts Payable Technician
Department: Accounts Payable Department at the Foundation
Academic Degree(s): A.S. Accounting, Fresno City College
How long have you worked at Fresno State?
Sept. 2021 to the end of Jan. 2022 I worked through Robert Half at the Foundation Office. From Feb. 2022 to now, I work at the Foundation Office as an Accounts Payable Technician.
Are you a Valley native?
Yes, I am from the Valley. I am third generation Russian descent.
Are you part of a Bulldog family with generations of Bulldog graduates or current students?
Yes, I have a nephew currently attending this university. His name is David Portnoff.
Do you have a campus mentor or someone who has helped you in your career?
My mentor is my manager, Pamela Woody.
Tell us about your department and what people may not know about it.
My department is Accounts Payable, and we try to excel at excellence. I review the payment authorizations that come across my desk and help to process the checks in a timely manner. With retrieving as much information as needed to help us to process what we have for the payment authorizations, we can process checks faster.
What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important?
My most notable accomplishment is all the small details that are needed to retrieve what is needed to be able to process the payment authorizations. Without detail, nobody would get paid for their requests.
What are you most passionate about in your field and why?
I like to get the requests out in a timely manner, so people can be paid for their hard work. I think that by doing this, we can show our appreciation for those who work for the university.
What is a memorable moment you had in class?
When I went to Fresno City, my humanities professor asked how long we could live on food that was in our house without having to go buy extras. I stated that I could live for a few months because all we had were snacks and canned foods. We were talking about wastefulness in society, at the time.
What is your teaching style?
Well like anyone, as reviewing and teaching someone else on payment authorizations, I start at the top and end at the bottom. I try to give the person I am teaching as much information as possible, even the littlest details, because I think that in the long run everything runs more smoothly. If I forget something, I write the idea down and tell them later. The more information they know, the easier it is when training them.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
I always say, "in general," or "always remember to look for this."
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time?
Cooking, eating, spending time with my son and watching YouTube.
What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know?
I like to watch foreign movies (English subtitled) because they don't use curse words.
Is there something else you would like to share that was not asked?
The outside world is harsh to live in; we as humans need to learn to treat others with love and respect. That in turn is what makes us different as people, to show that we care for others around us.
