Please join the Student Health and Counseling Center in recognizing National Stalking Awareness and Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January.
Millions of men and women are stalked every year in the United States. Stalking is a pattern of behavior directed at a specific person that causes fear. This may look like being followed, approached and/or threatened, including through technology. Stalking is a terrifying and psychologically harmful crime and is also a predictor of serious violence. We all have a role to play in identifying stalking and supporting victims and survivors. Learn more at www.stalkingawareness.org.
Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Victims of human trafficking are of all genders, ages, races, countries, socioeconomic statuses and so on. Many people are not aware that this is happening in Fresno County. Learn more about human trafficking and how you can help with The Department of Homeland Security's Blue Campaign at www.dhs.gov/blue-campaign.
If you want to know more or have concerns this may be happening to someone you know, please contact our Confidential Campus Survivor Advocate, Mindy Kates at 559.278.6796 or survivoradvocate@csufresno.edu.
The Student Health and Counseling Center offers the campus community a bystander intervention training called STEP UP. You can request this training for yourself, your office or classroom by visiting fresnostate.edu/studentaffairs/health/wellness/request-presentation.html.
