For Luis David Barrera, lending a helping "paw" just makes sense.
As part of the 2015-2016 Fresno State Health Peer Ambassadors of Wellness, with the Fresno State Health Center (Fresno State Health PAWs), he reached out to students to tell them about programs such as Bulldogs for Recovery. He helped promote drug and alcohol awareness with safety tips to prevent alcohol poisoning. He also promoted the National Suicide Prevention week and handed out information and resources to students.
Luis was surprised to find many students did not know that most of the Health Center services are already paid through tuition.
Sharing knowledge and resources that support those in need made him appreciate the value of leadership.
"This service impacted me by helping me grow as a leader in the community," he said. "Volunteering with Health PAWs helped me approach a variety of situations and apply knowledge and resources to support those in need."
