Name: Gena Strang-Behrens
Title: Director of Club Red and Athletic Alumni Engagement
Department: Bulldog Foundation
Academic Degrees: Bachelors in criminology (Fresno State), masters in sport administration (Arkansas State)
How long you have worked at Fresno State?: Almost seven years.
What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important? As crazy as it sounds, it was gathering data on all of our former athletes. Before I started, we did not have a process in place to code students as athletes when they graduated. It has taken two years, but we have a process in place and we have gone back and found many lost Bulldog athletes. Now we are able to better engage our passionate former student-athletes.
What are you most passionate about in your field and why? Engaging our alumni back to campus. I had such an amazing time as a student-athlete and when I was done, I felt very lost. Now I am able to reach out to alumni and let them know they always have a home at Fresno State and we want to see them.
What is a memorable moment you had at your job? Whenever I can connect a current student-athlete with an alumni student-athlete, it's always memorable. Our alumni are full of wisdom and they pass that to the current student-athlete to help them in the transition for life after athletics.
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time? My husband and I play a lot of golf and as crazy as it sounds, I really enjoy working out. Nothing like a good sweat to clear your mind!
What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know? I'm very much an introvert. I can be very outgoing and really love people, but I also need down time where I can just have some quiet time.
Is there something else you would like to share that was not asked? For me there is nothing better than working for your alma mater. Fresno State and our Athletics Department are very personal for me and I feel incredibly blessed to get to work with great staff, coaches and student-athletes. Go Dogs!
