Fresno State Police Officer George Rascon was one of 18 officers from across the California State University campuses to receive a Life Saving Medal in honor of the work they do to keep campuses safe and for their outstanding actions to go above and beyond the call of duty.
The medals were awarded during the second annual CSU Police Commendations Award Ceremony at the Office of the Chancellor in Long Beach on Jan. 29, following the Board of Trustees meeting.
Rascon was playing golf with friends at the Riverside Golf Course in Fresno on May 9, 2018 when a man collapsed, clutching his chest. Rascon, who was off duty, rushed to the man, who was not breathing, and began CPR. After the third round of CPR, the man gasped for air. He was later transported to the hospital and released the following day.
Julie Moore, the Special Collections Catalog librarian at the Madden Library, has just completed a book, "Best Practices for Cataloging Objects Using RDA and MARC 21" for the Cataloging Policy Committee of the International Online Audiovisual Catalogers.
A collaborative effort among top special formats catalogers in the country and years in the making, Moore served as the task force chair, editor and one of the chief authors of this peer-reviewed work. Guides like these directly affect how 3D objects (including examples of games, puzzles, microscope slides, dioramas and toys) are described and are therefore made searchable in libraries all across the country and internationally.
Catalogers like Moore are to thank for making a naturally-found fossil or educational kits, such as a set of rock and mineral specimens or a piece of memorabilia from a historical event, visible and accessible. Moore is one of the leading catalogers in the United States and is highly sought after as an instructor and mentor in the field.
Dr. Keith Clement, professor of criminology, was appointed to the California Interagency Advisory Committee on Apprenticeships as IT Sector Subcommittee chair.
The committee holds open quarterly meetings to provide advice and guidance to the Administrator of Apprenticeship and Chief of the Division of Apprenticeship Standards on apprenticeship programs, standards and agreements that are not within the jurisdiction of the California Apprenticeship Council.
Clement and others are working to develop a statewide cybersecurity career education pipeline/pathway with linked registered apprenticeships opportunities (including 2,000 hours On the Job Training) available across the state.
