Max Tsai was named Director of Planning and Digital Transformation for the Technology Services Division, effective December 1, 2023, after serving in an interim capacity for most of the year.
Max arrived at Fresno State in 1993 as an international student, receiving his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science, beginning his career at the university library shortly before graduating. His tech career has been with Fresno State ever since.
With over 25 years of IT experience in higher education, Max has built effective alliances across the campus and developed new technology programs, fostering relationships with corporate and public sector partners. He enjoys working directly with students to raise the next generation of leaders through innovation, digital fluency, mentoring and sharing life. His accomplishments include:
- Named Distinguished Innovator 2022 by CSU-Information Technology Services
- Named one of 10 Education Champions by Amazon Web Services Nationwide
- Established the Hub of Digital Transformation and Innovation, providing over 100 student internship opportunities since 2019
- Developed the Leadership, Innovation, Technology Experience internship program, fostering interdisciplinary students toward developing innovative tech solutions for real-world problems
- Received multiple Cal State Innovation mini-grants
Max will continue to provide thoughtful leadership, driving technology innovation at Fresno State to promote student success. The following services fall under Max’s supervision:
