Dr. Talin Suciyan is Kazan visiting professor of Armenian Studies at Fresno State. This talk will present one of the largest known collections of postcards of Ottoman Armenian villages and towns, dated both before and after 1915. In the absence of visual material from the old country, this collection provides a vivid picture of the towns and villages, architectural monuments and social environment of the time. They belong to the archive of the Fenerci family, an Armenian family living in Montreal.
Meticulously categorized and carefully preserved, the collection itself is one of the most important acts of memory preservation. The lecture will present the postcards and associated documents along with the logic of their categorization to trace the mental steps of the collection’s creator.
