In week three of our Bulldog Safety Tips, we want to share some tips on what to do during a variety of emergency situations.
- What do I do if there’s a power outage on campus? Get to a safe area and be aware of your surroundings. DO NOT use elevators. Watch and listen for campuswide updates and/or instructions. See more information here.
- What do I do if there’s a fire on campus? Call 911. Activate a fire alarm and evacuate if the fire is an immediate threat to safety. Do not use elevators. Make sure all main and fire doors are closed. Fire extinguishers should be used to aid escape ONLY. Always follow instructions from campus officials.
- What do I do IF there’s an Earthquake on campus? DUCK, COVER, and HOLD! Duck or drop to the floor. Take cover under a desk, table or other furniture and cover your head. Hold on and be prepared to move. DO NOT use elevators. Always follow instructions from campus officials.
- What do I do IF there is an active shooter on campus? Plan ahead to know where to run, hide, fight. Run until it’s not safe to do so. If you can’t run, hide. Secure the door, close windows, turn off the lights and stay low to the floor away from the door. If you can’t hide anymore, fight as a last resort. For a schedule of current safety classes look here.
