In the summer of 2021, Technology Services embarked on a project to expand the outdoor wireless footprint on campus and upgrade current wireless locations, aiming to provide options for the campus community to safely access campus resources when indoor resources were constrained.
In addition to the existing 23 outdoor wireless access points, 18 new areas were implemented based on their location and coverage.
More than ever outdoor wireless connectivity has become increasingly beneficial to our campus community, especially our students. Here are a few examples of how outdoor WiFi supports student success:
- provides high-quality broadband for students who may not have access elsewhere
- allows access to campus resources even at times when buildings may be closed
- provides students access to network resources during non-traditional hours
- allows students to easily transition from online to in-person classes, eliminating transportation time
- addresses current social-distancing limitations
As the spring weather approaches, we hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy outdoor WiFi.
