Name: Eran Rubin
Title: Associate professor
Department: Information Systems and Decision Sciences
Academic Degrees: Ph.D. management information systems, University of British Columbia
How long you have worked at Fresno State?: 1 year
What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important? That's a good question. I think some of my recent studies are most noteworthy. I have just had a publication in a highly prestigious journal, the Journal of Political Economy, and this work looks at the way people use information and reference it. The findings in this paper have wide implications on current deficiencies in the way knowledge is transferred, used and acknowledged.
What are you most passionate about in your field and why? The field of information systems is fascinating. There are always new things emerging that touch every aspect of our life. This field encompasses much to research about and is always very relevant and practical too.
What is a memorable moment you had at your job? The first football game of the Bulldogs of course!
What is a memorable moment you had in class, and what does that reveal about your teaching style? It's not one moment but rather many. There were quite a few times that students came to me and told me that what they learned about the field of information systems in my class made them decide to take the information systems program. That is always memorable and inspiring.
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time? I like swimming, reading, and of course, in a place like Fresno there is nothing better than the parks and the outdoors.
What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know? Many don't know that I have co-founded a startup and we had a product that was quite successful. It was a very nice experience but eventually I had to decide on whether to give up my academic career in order to become a full time entrepreneur. I was not ready to give up the thing I am most passionate about which is research and teaching.
