As the only CSU and UC campus to join the organization, it is an honor to be part of the global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders.
California State University, Fresno is now a member of United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative.
As a member of the UN Global Compact, Fresno State is committed to working towards the Ten Principles of the Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption; subcategorized into 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Chaired by Dr. Julie Olson-Buchanan, the Fresno State UN Global Compact Steering committee’s members include faculty representatives from each school or college, the ASI Senator of Sustainability and a representative from the Division of Administration and Finance. A short video overview of the committee’s role in working with the UNGC can be accessed here.

The committee’s first step in documenting the campus’ contributions to the 17 SDGs, is to submit a baseline Communication on Engagement Report in summer 2021. The report will be a summary of contributions made by the campus community since November 2019 that captures activities in the areas of curriculum, research, outreach, and operations that address any of Ten Principles and/or the 17 SDGs. A few examples of the good work the campus is already doing includes the Principles of Community, California Water Institute, the Global Awareness Certificate of Special Study and the AASHE STARs Bronze award.
If you would like to submit any type of individual or group contribution by the March 1 deadline, please click here to access the Google Form. The steering committee is working closely with the Sustainability Taskforce and any data you provide will also be shared with them for inclusion in the AASHE STARs data collection efforts (and vice versa). For more information, please contact your school/college representative.
