Dr. Thomas I. Gunn, professor emeritus of agricultural economics, passed away on Nov. 28 in Park City, Utah, surrounded by his family.
Dr. Gunn came to Fresno State as a research coordinator in the fall of 1967. In 1970, he was asked to help organize the Department of Agricultural Economics and was selected to be the first chairperson of the department, a position he held for 10 years.
After a sabbatical leave at the University of California, Davis, Dr. Gunn returned to full-time teaching. He planned and taught an innovative class called the Agricultural Marketing Block Program. He did research for CATI relating to California Marketing Orders and Commissions, which resulted in several publications.
Dr. Gunn grew up in southern Utah in a ranching and farming family. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University. He retired from Fresno State in 1991 after 24 years of service to the University and moved to Park City.
Dr. Gunn is survived by his wife, Joan, a former resource teacher at Teague Elementary School in Fresno. They have four children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 6, in Sandy, Utah. Burial was at Logan Utah City Cemetery.
