The President's Cultural Competency Certificate Program provides participants with a greater understanding of how we can and why we should work together to continue building a strong and inclusive Fresno State community. Participants will also have an opportunity to reflect on their learning through writing, art, music, and/or other forms of expression.
Certificates awarded to those who complete all the required and elective seminars as well as a reflection component. Non-certificate seekers are welcome to attend all seminars. All seminars are in the Vintage Room. RSVP is highly recommended. Seating is limited.
Historical Overview: Power, Privilege and Oppression
Presented by: Dr. Francine Oputa
The purpose of this seminar is to analyze how power operates through policies, systems and structures, and develop a historical context for understanding oppression, privilege, power, resistance and social change. Participants will also reflect on one’s own multiple identities within history and society and examine how power and privilege can hinder community building in the workplace.
