Works Above and Beyond
Dr. Nan Barker, CalState TEACH
In spite of the challenges of leading a department, Dr. Barker supports and stands for equitable outcomes for both students and faculty. I admire her courage and leadership.
Asaad Daghlas, Technology Services
Asaad has been a wonderful colleague who truly cares about his work and the campus community that he supports. He is extremely knowledgeable and ensures that he provides the best level of quality work in all tasks and projects. Asaad has gone above and beyond in making sure that our mobile app project was successful. Amazing job, Asaad.
Jesse Farias, Admissions and Recruitment
Since last year, two of my daughters have applied to Fresno State. In both cases, I encountered questions that even I, a faculty member, could not answer, and Jesse provided excellent and expert support to guide my daughters and I through the application and admissions process. On the last day to apply, he made time to Zoom with me to review my daughter's application after he returned home from attending a meeting at his son's school. He took the time to speak with me, a new department chair, about how he could help me communicate with applicants to promote my department. Jesse offered to manage the correspondence between me and the applicants to alleviate my workload. Jesse's commitment to student success is evident in how he serves his colleagues and the wider campus community. This semester, he enthusiastically agreed to be part of both an HSI symposium organizing committee and a staff panel on HSI servingness and spoke passionately about the role that student affairs professionals play in the success of HSIs. Jesse is a true servant-leader and Fresno State is truly fortunate to have someone with his expertise, passion, and understanding of students and the Central Valley.
Richard Ma, Technology Services
Richard is extremely knowledgeable and has gone above and beyond in making sure that our mobile app project is successful. He is a team member that you can always count on to make sure the technical pieces are in place. He always has innovative solutions to solve problems or challenges that he or the team faces. Great work, Richard.
Lindsey Yang, Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies
As the department administrative assistant, Lindsey has provided expert support as I have transitioned to department chair this semester and as a new dean has transitioned to our college. She is an excellent critical thinker and problem solver and approaches student and faculty challenges with compassion, knowledge, and an equity mindset. She has created a warm and inviting environment in our department office that is a pleasure to walk into every morning. I enjoy our partnership and feel motivated to set goals knowing that she is prepared for the challenges. Importantly, she is a constant learner and seeks out opportunities to grow both in her role and as a contributor to our campus community. Our students have benefitted immensely from her clear communication and the effort she puts into ensuring that their needs are met. Every department needs a Lindsey.
Modeled Principles of Community
Lisa Bryant, Political Science
As I have transitioned to my role as department chair, Dr. Lisa Bryant has provided valuable support and collegiality. Just one year into her chair ship herself, she has been extremely generous with her time and knowledge, answering my questions and checking in on me from time to time. This has been key to helping me combat feelings of isolation. Importantly, Dr. Bryant has made me feel welcomed into chairs-only spaces and is someone who I truly enjoy working with as a colleague and friend.
