The Fresno State Winery recently won silver medals for its 2017 sauvignon blanc and 2015 petite sirah at the 38th annual San Francisco International Wine Competition, the nation’s largest and most influential wine competition that featured over 4,500 wine entries from 31 countries.
Both campus wines are included with a special limited-edition sherry as a special holiday gift set for $58, which is 15 percent off the regular price, and available for pick-up at the winery or through mail order for California residents.
The sherry is a Bordeaux-style blend with fruit from Duarte Nursery and campus vineyards; the sirah is made from Fresno County fruit; and the sauvignon blanc is sourced from Russian River Valley fruit from Sonoma County.
The Fresno State Winery has won more than 600 honors since it became the nation’s first commercially-bonded winery on a collegiate campus in 1997. The winery currently offers 11 red, white, blush and specialty wines that are produced on campus by viticulture and enology students and staff.
