“Geo-hydrologic Hazards in Northern Italy – From the Alps to the Ligurian Sea”
A survey of geo-hydrologic hazards affecting a populous part of Italy will be presented. Flood and landslide hazard are common throughout this region. Floods involve coastal, riverine, and lacustrine locations. A wide variety of landslide types are commonly triggered by storm events. Consequently, geologists are deeply involved with landslide investigation and hazard mapping for guiding land use decisions and disaster preparedness. They are also part of post-disaster situations to glean information for avoiding or limiting disaster effects in the future.
