Students attend ’Dog Days to learn new information about their future college experience, but some are lucky enough to have a parent on campus to help them succeed and cheer them on.
This summer, various faculty and staff members attended the ’Dog Days orientation program with their children who are beginning the next chapter of their lives as new Fresno State students.
’Dog Days gives students time to meet with an advisor, register for classes, and learn about campus.
Amy Allen, assistant director for the Student Recreation Center and a 20-year employee, attended ’Dog Days with her daughter, Aamiah, who graduated from Central High School. She was an active honor student, involved in sports such as cheer and track, and a member of FFA. Aamiah will be majoring in forensic behavioral science on campus.

As a former Bulldog herself, Amy is proud that her daughter is now an official Bulldog as well.
“I’m extremely excited for Aamiah to attend Fresno State because I am so passionate about our University," Amy said. "Her dad also attended Fresno State and played football here, so it’s exciting to have another Bulldog in our family. She’s truly Bulldog Born, Bulldog Bred."
Amy has had many years of experience at ’Dog Days promoting her department, but she said the experience is different when you are there just as a parent. Amy has high hopes that Aamiah will find her niche, get involved on campus, and begin to make lifelong friendships on campus while gaining knowledge along the way.
Dr. Janell Morillo, associate vice president for Student Health, Counseling and Wellness, is a former Bulldog whose daughter Caitlin is entering her freshman year. Janell and her husband are both alums of the University where Janell has worked for 24 years.
Caitlin’s choice to be a Bulldog will continue their families’ Bulldog legacy, which is why Caitlin is extremely excited for the opportunity to obtain her degree from the same institution as her parents.
Janell attended ’Dog Days with Caitlin, where she found the orientation to be “informative and enlightening” for not only the students, but parents too.
“’Dog Days provides a great introduction to the university, giving students critical information before they begin their college journey,” Janell said.
She believes that the information and experience from the daylong orientation will prepare Caitlin and make her more successful in her first year.
Janell is excited for Caitlin to receive an excellent education, an opportunity for personal growth, and an overall great college career.
Both moms are looking forward to sharing a new Bulldog experience with their daughters.
