The American Philosophical Association presented a national honor to Dr. Andrew Fiala (Philosophy) for a column he wrote for The Fresno Bee. In the award-winning column, titled, “Without faith in humanity, cynicism grows and democracy becomes mob-rule,” Dr. Fiala writes about the level of distrust that Americans have for their political leaders and processes. Dr. Tina Fernandes Botts (Philosophy) has published the fifth edition of Feminist Thought with co-author Rosemarie Tong, professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. See more.
Jes Therkelsen (MCJ) was was selected as one of only five national finalists for the 2016 Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty, otherwise known as the Lynton Award. See more.
The Women’s Association is pleased to announce the faculty and staff recipients of its 2017 Outstanding Leadership Awards Program.
The faculty award recipients were Dr. Carmen Caprau from the Mathematics Department and Dr. Marnel Niles-Goins from the Communications Department.
Dr. Caprau’s research in mathematical knot theory is intriguing and as complicated as the knots themselves. Her work has been recognized on campus with her receipt of the 2016 Provost’s Award for Distinguished Research, Scholarship or Creative Accomplishments.
Dr. Marnel Niles-Goins’ research in examining the role of women in Communication Studies is an important contribution to broadening this area of study. She mentors both graduate and undergraduate students
The staff award recipient is Maria Pena from the Henry Madden Library. Ms. Pena’s leadership of the team that assisted in developing the Library’s next generation library services platform (ALMA) impressed the Awards Committee.
