Join the Student Health and Counseling Center and the Cross Cultural and Gender Center-Gender Programs and Services in recognition of Denim Day.
Please join us in wearing denim in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Denim Day began in 1998 after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. This is the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history. Denim Day invites community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans (or some type of denim) on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. All are welcome to join and support this campaign.
How can you participate in Denim Day?
- Wear denim on Wednesday, April 28
- Post a photo in your denim to social media using #DenimDay #SAAM #IASK.
- Tag @FSHealthCenter and @FresnoStateCCGC
Optional: If you also want to post a message of support to survivors use these example statements:
- I believe survivors!
- I support survivors, you are not alone!
- I support survivors by listening without judgement!
- Rape culture ends with me!
- I support survivors' decisions!
