The Asian Faculty and Staff Association is pleased to host a virtual conversation with Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, Bao Johri. Learn more about her role on campus and professional journey, as well as how she navigates being a Hmong American leader, both on campus and in the technology field.

As the vice president for information technology and chief information officer at Fresno State, Johri leads services and support for more than 25,000 students and 2,500 employees while managing 85 team members across 10 departments, ranging from Academic Technology Services to Network Engineering. She also oversees the continuing evolution and refinement of technology and organizational strategies and structures that support University needs and foster deep partnerships campuswide that support innovation and strategic technology initiatives.
After serving in the private sector for 20 years, Johri received her calling and returned to her alma mater. She joined CSU, Sacramento in April 2018 as senior director of Planning and Strategic Projects, where she led the Project Management and Change Management Office, then became the deputy chief information officer.
Johri is "Made at Sac State." Her journey at Sacramento State started with a BA in liberal studies, teaching credential, and MBA, and she is now pursuing her doctorate in educational leadership. A one-time elementary school teacher and community college lecturer, she previously worked as an IT manager in sectors from real estate to energy.
Johri is a first-generation college student and the first in her family to earn a college degree.
