Known for the freshness and originality of his musical interpretations, he has steadily built a reputation as one of today’s most compelling and persuasive artists with an unusually broad repertoire. Winner of a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, the Avery Fisher Prize, and Musical America's Instrumentalist of the Year award, he was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
