The Fresno State community is invited to participate in National Denim Day, a sexual violence prevention and education campaign, on Wednesday, April 24.
Denim Day grew out of a 1998 Italian Supreme Court decision that overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. The justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
Join the Cross Cultural and Gender Center and make a social statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.
If your office does not permit jeans, we will be handing out denim ribbons that you can pin to your lapel from noon - 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 by the Taco Bell across from the club booths.
